Original show mixes thrilling contemporary circus skills with old-time circus fun
A lion tamer who's afraid of lions. Lady Lillianna Fortuna, a graceful trapeze artist. The clown duo Flik and Flak. These are just a few of the characters who'll take to the ring in Full Circle Circus, an original production where contemporary acrobatics, juggling, unicycling, and more meet classic circus fun. Presented by Vancouver's CirKids School of Circus Arts, this 90-minute extravaganza features 28 talented local performers between the ages of 12 and 18.
Full Circle Circus opens in the mythical National Museum of the Performing Arts, where an exhibit set in the Victorian era depicts the world's first modern one-ring circus. The fun begins when, suddenly, the exhibit comes to life, and a group of museum visitors travels back in time to this early circus stage. Aerialists, acrobats, jugglers, clowns, unicyclists, stilt walkers, dancers, even a circus freak, all showcase their skills in this magical world, as they rehearse for their first-ever circus ring performance. The show comes "full circle" when opening night of this Victorian-era spectacular becomes the dramatic last act of Full Circle Circus.
Full Circle Circus, which was conceived by CirKids Artistic Director Jay Nunns, runs for seven performances -- Thursday, May 1, Friday, May 2, and Saturday, May 3 at 12:45 and 7pm, and Sunday, May 4 at 12:45pm -- at the PNE Garden Auditorium, 2901 E. Hastings Street in Vancouver. The production is designed for ages 5 and up.
